The Golden Triangle is the tourist circuit connecting New Delhi, Agra (in Uttar Pradesh) and Jaipur (in Rajasthan). On a map the three cities form a rough triangle of roughly 720–750 km by road. Most travellers start in Delhi, drive south-east to Agra for the Taj Mahal, then west to Jaipur, and back to Delhi.
The route packs four UNESCO World Heritage sites and a fifth nearby into a single week:
That density is why it’s the most recommended first trip to India.
| Leg | Distance | Typical drive |
|---|---|---|
| Delhi → Agra (Yamuna Expressway) | approx. 230 km | 3.5–4 hours |
| Agra → Jaipur (via Fatehpur Sikri) | approx. 240 km | 5–6 hours with sightseeing stops |
| Jaipur → Delhi | approx. 280 km | 5–6 hours |
Drive times depend on traffic, weather and stops. Winter fog between December and January can slow early-morning departures.
Five days is the sweet spot for most travellers. It gives you a full day in Delhi, a sunrise visit to the Taj Mahal, Fatehpur Sikri on the drive to Jaipur, and a full unhurried day at Amber Fort and the City Palace.
Three or four days works if you’re short on time, but expect long days and early starts.
Six days or more leaves room for Old Delhi food walks, a cooking class in Jaipur, rest afternoons for children or older travellers, or an extension to Ranthambore, Varanasi or Udaipur.

India’s capital shows two cities side by side.
Old Delhi: the Red Fort, Jama Masjid (one of India’s largest mosques) and a cycle-rickshaw ride through the lanes of Chandni Chowk.
New Delhi: Humayun’s Tomb, the Qutub Minar, India Gate, and a drive past Rashtrapati Bhavan and Parliament. Gurudwara Bangla Sahib, where the community kitchen serves free meals to thousands every day, is one of the most memorable visits.
Agra is home to the Taj Mahal, built by Mughal emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his wife Mumtaz Mahal. We plan your visit for sunrise, when the marble changes colour and crowds are thinner.
You’ll also visit Agra Fort and Itimad-ud-Daulah, often called the “Baby Taj.” In the evening, Mehtab Bagh across the Yamuna gives you a sunset view of the Taj.
On the way to Jaipur you’ll stop at Fatehpur Sikri, Emperor Akbar’s abandoned red-sandstone capital. We can also add Chand Baori at Abhaneri, one of India’s deepest stepwells.
The capital of Rajasthan is known as the Pink City.
Amber Fort: you reach the hilltop fort by jeep. We don’t offer elephant rides.
In the city: the City Palace, Jantar Mantar (an 18th-century astronomical observatory), and a photo stop at Hawa Mahal, the “Palace of Winds.”
Bazaars: Johari Bazaar for jewellery and Bapu Bazaar for textiles.
Many travellers add a few days to the classic Delhi Agra Jaipur tour:

Important: The Taj Mahal is closed every Friday. Every itinerary we build schedules Agra around this, so you’ll never miss it.
First-time visitors. The Golden Triangle is the gentlest introduction to India. Your guide handles the crowds, tickets and bargaining; you just take it in.
Families with children. We plan shorter drive days, child seats on request, and kid-friendly stops such as the rickshaw ride in Old Delhi and the jeep ride to Amber Fort.
Couples and honeymooners. Add a private sunrise at the Taj, a heritage palace stay in Jaipur, or a rooftop dinner facing the Taj.
Solo female travellers. Private transport door to door, vetted drivers, guides you meet on arrival, and 24/7 support throughout. [Link to solo female safety guide]
Seniors and travellers with limited mobility. Relaxed itineraries, hotels with lifts, and advance planning for monuments with steps or long walks.
Luxury travellers. Five-star and palace hotels, premium vehicles and expert guides.
Every package on this page is a starting point, not a fixed programme. With a tailor-made Golden Triangle tour you can change the number of nights, swap hotels, add a cooking class, a food walk or a tiger safari, start in Jaipur or Agra instead of Delhi, or combine the triangle with Varanasi, Udaipur or Goa.

Most Golden Triangle tours start and end at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL). Our representative meets you in the arrivals hall with a name board, whatever time your flight lands.
Most nationalities need a visa, and many are eligible for India’s e-Visa. Apply only through the official Government of India portal (indianvisaonline.gov.in); avoid third-party sites that charge extra.
How much does a Golden Triangle tour cost?
Private tours start from $[X] per person for car and guide only, and from $[X] per person with 3★ hotels, based on two travellers sharing. The price depends on the number of days, your hotel category and group size. Solo travellers pay more per person; groups of four or more pay less.
How many days do I need for the Golden Triangle?
Five days (four nights) suits most travellers. It allows a full day in Delhi, a sunrise Taj Mahal visit and a relaxed day in Jaipur. It can be done in three days, but at a fast pace.
Is the Golden Triangle tour private?
Yes. All our Golden Triangle tours are private, with your own vehicle, driver and guide. We don’t join you with other travellers.
Can I customize my Golden Triangle tour?
Yes. You can change the length, hotels, starting city, pace and activities, or add extensions such as Ranthambore or Varanasi. See our tailor-made Golden Triangle tours.
Is it better to travel between Delhi, Agra and Jaipur by car or train?
A private car is the most flexible option. It collects you from your hotel, stops at Fatehpur Sikri and Abhaneri on the way, and carries your luggage. The Gatimaan Express between Delhi and Agra takes about 1 hour 40 minutes and is a good option if you prefer rail. We can combine both.
Is the Taj Mahal open every day?
No. It’s closed on Fridays. It opens around sunrise and closes around sunset on the other days. We always plan your Agra day around this.
Is the Golden Triangle safe for solo female travellers?
With a private car, pre-arranged guides and hotels, and 24/7 support, the Golden Triangle is one of the most comfortable routes in India for solo women. Standard precautions apply: dress modestly at religious sites and use the transport arranged for you.
What should I wear?
Light, breathable clothing that covers shoulders and knees is ideal, and it’s required at mosques and temples. You’ll remove your shoes at religious sites, so slip-on shoes are handy. Bring a warm layer from December to February.
How much should I tip my driver and guide?
Tipping is customary but optional. As general guidance, many travellers give drivers around ₹300–500 per day and guides around ₹500–1,000 per day, depending on service.
Can the tour start from Jaipur or Agra instead of Delhi?
Yes. We run Golden Triangle tours starting from any of the three cities, including pickup from Jaipur airport.
Do I need to book in advance?
For October to March, book at least [4–8] weeks ahead to secure your preferred hotels. At other times of year, we can often arrange a tour within a few days.
How do I pay, and what is your cancellation policy?
[Deposit amount, accepted payment methods (card/PayPal/bank transfer) and cancellation terms. Overseas buyers look for this before enquiring.]
We don’t just sell Golden Triangle tours: we run them on the ground.
XploreJourney is the tour division of XploreWorld360, a Delhi-based ground transportation company that moves [corporate clients, families and international visitors] across North India every day. Most tour agencies book a car from a third party once you’ve paid. We started with the cars, the drivers and the operations desk, and built our tours on top of them.
That difference shows up on your trip. The vehicle that collects you at Delhi airport is [part of our own fleet: only if true] and maintained to the standards our corporate clients expect. Our drivers know the Delhi–Agra–Jaipur route well, including the fog-season timings, the Friday Taj closure and the best hour to reach Amber Fort before the crowds. If a flight is delayed or a plan changes mid-tour, our operations team in Delhi can adjust it in real time.
